The use of the Federal Emergencies Act was a clear overstep.
That’s the feeling of Kenora MP Eric Melillo.
He says testimony over the past month confirms what the Conservatives have been saying all along.
“I’ve maintained, and our party has maintained since the beginning the the Emergencies Act wasn’t necessary,” says Melillo.
“Law enforcement had the legislation and the ability to clear the blockade without it and I believe from the testimony we’ve heard, that point has been made even more evident. I don’t think the government should have let it get to the point that it did and I don’t think the government should have overreached with the Emergencies Act to put an end to that blockade.
Testimony wrapped up on last Friday with the Prime Minister on the stand.
The Federal Emergency Act hearing is going into a new stage this week.
Today, the Public Order Emergency Commission will look into the role social media played in the Freedom Convoy and the use of misinformation and disinformation.
