Dwayne Edward Lanktree
13 May 1945 – 20 November 2022
Dwayne Edward Lanktree passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 20, 2022, at the age of 77.
Dwayne was born on May 13th, 1945 in Port Arthur, ON. He spent most of his childhood in communities across Northwestern Ontario and often told stories of Little Long Rapids, Ripple, Pickle Lake, Thunder Bay, Hurkett and Dorion where he settled for most of his life. He spent the last nine years in Dryden, ON after retirement.
In June 1974, he married the love of his life, Elaine (nee McArthur). Together they raised a family, gave back to their community, camped, fished, picked blueberries, and explored all the backroads. He was always quick to help anyone in need. He had a knack of showing up when people were broke down on the side of the road and always managed to get people out of a pickle. He was never shy to express an opinion and always insisted on doing things his own way.
For most of his career, he was a proud truck driver working mostly in the logging and construction industries. He especially enjoyed his time working with family and friends at Sturgeon Timber and retired there in 2005.
He is lovingly remembered by his cherished wife and true partner in life Elaine; his four children Paul McArthur, Michael McArthur, Andrew Lanktree (Shanna) & Jaclyn Height Falkenberg (Dean); his seven grandchildren Anthony, Jonathon, Brett, Robyn, Kaija, Jake and Holden; sisters Dolores Eady (Doug) and Shelley McLean (Don); his brother-in-law Doug Lundstrom; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dwayne was predeceased by his infant daughter (1968); his parents Edward & Arvella (nee Bryan) Lanktree; Elaine’s parents Claude & Irene McArthur; and his sister-in-law Joan Lundstrom.
Many thanks to Dr. Cook, the nurses at Dryden Regional Health Centre, and the staff at Princess Court for your compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice are welcomed.
A celebration of his life will take place in Dorion in the spring with details to be announced at a later date.
