Joyce Irene Swanson nee McDonald
February 26th, 1935 – November 19th, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Irene Swanson (nee McDonald) whom passed peacefully with her husband Edwin by her side.
Born to Frank and Eliza McDonald in the Dryden Red Cross Hospital, she attended Albert Street School and Dryden High School in Dryden, ON, where she grew up. Joyce would attend summer school for Teachers college in Thunder Bay, followed by one year of Teachers College in North Bay, Ontario. She returned to Dryden after college and taught in Hudson for two years. Joyce taught at Amesdale for one year then Wabigoon for one year and then one year in Dyment. Then in 1958, she met her husband, Edwin, in Dyment and they married March 28th 1959. She continued to live in Dyment for six years until they moved to Dryden.
Joyce was very involved in Community Activities including, bowling, curling, and was an avid card player. She spent a lot of time at their camp in Waldof, the farmhouse in Dyment and the trappers shack in Suzanne. She loved to garden, fish, cook and bake. Joyce was very devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed spending her time with her family and keeping close relationships with her friends. The highlight of her life was the trip to Norway in 1986. She loved her many dogs, and cat Milo
Joyce was predeceased by her father Frank McDonald, mother Eliza Scott (nee Wall), Stepfather George Scott, brother Ben McDonald (Shirley), sister Evangeline Lechelt (Ron), sister Eleanor Hercun (Kas), daughter Debra Swanson.
She is survived by her husband Edwin Swanson, daughter Candace Fielder (Craig), son Dan Swanson, sister Dorothy Duchnicki (Mike), granddaughter Eryn Cade (Sheldon), granddaughter Leigha Wyse (Jason), granddaughter Lyndsay Kruger (Alex), granddaughter Nikki Zajarny (Andrew) as well five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Doctor Michael Cortens for his dedicated care and all the wonderful and compassionate Registered Nurses and Personal Support Workers at Princess Court in Dryden.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will be held in summer of 2023 at the Dyment Cemetery
