Contract talks between the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the provincial government continue over a new deal for education workers.
The union says it is currently in mediation with the singular focus of negotiating a collective agreement that meets the needs of students, parents, and workers.
Officials add they will be limiting their comments to the media while in mediation to better direct efforts to reaching a freely negotiated deal.
A statement from the union reads, “We respectfully call on the Ford government to make the same commitment, refrain from making comments that distract from negotiations, and spend the time working to get a deal done for student success and good jobs.”
Meantime, the government’s application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board over the work stoppage has been withdrawn.
It had filed an Unlawful Strike Application last Friday.
