We change our clocks back one hour early Sunday morning which is an opportunity to ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are fully functional.
Reagan Breeze is the Social Emergency Manager with Paawidigong First Nations Forum and he was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show today (Friday).
Breeze says alarms must be in place on every level of your home.
“One of the biggest things that we do stress is that they are CSA or Underwriters Laboratory certified because their are so many different models out there. We just ask people, if they do have any questions, to contact local Emergency Services.”
Breeze adds, “We ask them to test them monthly and also to replace them as per manufacturing guidelines. Most times for smoke alarms their up to 10 years and CO alarms could be 5 to 7 to 10 years.”
He says this is also a time to make sure you have an emergency escape plan in place and review it with your family.
