The wait is almost over for the Dryden Eagles High School Football team.
The 5-2 Eagles head to Winnipeg today (Thursday) for a Semi-Final showdown with the 6-1 Maples Marauders.
Defensive Back Coach Braydon Hansson says it will be a very physical game and both teams love running the football.
Hansson says the team is focused.
“We’ve been working really hard all year and I know that the guys are looking forward to moving on to that next level. The overall mood is we’re confident but we’re also cautious to the sense that we don’t want to take them for granted or anything like that. They have the same ambitions we do which is to move on to that next level.”
Hansson says this game is big opportunity for the program.
“Its been talked about at practice this week. There’s only been three teams in about the last 20 years that have made it through to the Finals. So the messaging we keep telling our team is we’re four quarters away from being in the finals, representing Northwestern Ontario in the Manitoba Football League and the boys are ecstatic and they are up to the challenge.”
Maples defeated Daniel McIntyre to advance, while Dryden has had the week off as they won by forfeit.
Braydon Hansson talks about that Quarter-Final cancelled game at home as West Kildonan was unable to make the trip to Dryden:
Kick-off is 5:00 pm at East Side Field.
The Beaver Brae Broncos face Kildonan East Rievers in the other Semi.
