The Ministry of the Attorney General has confirmed a Dryden man has pleaded guilty in the death of two elderly residents that sent shockwaves throughout the community.
Thirty-nine year old Justin Desautels pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree murder, two counts of break and enter dwelling house commit robbery and one count each of aggravated assault and assault peace officer cause bodily harm.
On March 2, 2020, at approximately 9:54 pm, members of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a suspicious person at Arbour Jade Trailer Park on McGogy Road.
In the following hours, several calls were placed to the OPP resulting in police attending the trailer park to investigate the death of one person and the serious injury to four people.
On March 25 of that year a second person, 72-year-old Dorothy Brown succumbed to her injuries.
As a result, Desautels, 36-years-old at the time, was re-arrested.
The next scheduled court appearance for Desautels is January 5, 2023 at 10 am CST for sentencing.
Every one who commits first degree murder or second degree murder in Canada is guilty of an indictable offence and shall be sentenced to imprisonment for life.
The presiding judge will make that decision at the time as well as length or eligibility of parole.
A publication ban that had been in place surrounding this case has been lifted.
However, Ministry officials say the Agreed Statement of Facts that was requested for publication was made an exhibit in this case and judicial consent is required to obtain access to the court exhibits.
