Leonard Sky
Sunrise: December 12, 1948 – Sunset: October 15, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Leonard Sky.
Leonard was a man with a big heart and even bigger personality. He was a man that touched the lives of everyone he met in one way or another, be it as a teacher, an elder, a guide or a friend. Leonard’s journey in life was not always easy or smooth, especially being a residential school survivor but he was resilient and continued to advocate for those who needed it. Leonard did not have to smile to show he was smiling. His eyes smiled for him. He had a gentle presence and those around him always felt at ease and felt a sense of comfort.
Leonard was an avid outdoors man. He loved to fish and often earned his bragging rights for the biggest musky caught in Eagle Lake. He enjoyed time on the lake and always had some good fish stories to share. He loved to trap and hunt and spent a lot of his life outdoors with his family and friends. He made sure to always teach the younger generations his knowledge and skills to be carried on. Leonard had a passion for history and was able to pass on his knowledge of this to everyone around. He made sure to share what he knew with those who were willing to learn.
Leonard met his love of his life, Edith and recently after many years married her with a beautiful traditional wedding. Edith and Leonard loved their time together teaching Ojibway at Migisi Sahgaigan School, taking early Tim Horton runs and eating at the PI.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife Meredith Sky, his sisters Liz Danielson, Mary Zoccole, Rose Sky, Kathleen Sky and his brothers Fred Sky Sr, Brian Sky, Jack Sky and numerous other family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Agnes Sky, brother Harold Green and his parents Fred and Maryanne Sky.
