Correctional facilities in northwestern Ontario are getting additional help.
The province is allocating 26 recent correctional officer graduates to jails in Kenora, Fort Frances and Thunder Bay as well as the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre and facilities in the Sudbury area.
The officer allocations for the Northwest are as follows:
Thunder Bay Correctional Centre: 8
Thunder Bay Jail : 7
Kenora Jail: 2
Fort Frances Jail: 2
In total, 98 new officers are being hired across Ontario.
They have successfully completed the eight-week training program.
The curriculum included a focus on anti-Black racism, Indigenous cultural training, and inmate management techniques.
