Gas prices have gone up and experts warn you can expect to pay more at the pump as we approach the Thanksgiving long weekend.
At last report the average price at the tank in Dryden is 179.9.
Motorists in Red Lake are paying up to 211.9.
The highest Canadian gas price according to reports is in Vancouver, B.C. at 241.9.
Dan McTeague is behind gaswizard.ca and he talks about the increases.
“From Thunder Bay all the way out to British Columbia it is the Chicago market and knowing that the Chicago market in the past month has gone from an average of 230 a gallon to 330 a gallon and it continues to rise.”
McTeague adds that Canadian gas is bought in U.S. dollars, which isn’t great when the loonie drops in value.
“It used to be a 131/132 pennies to buy a U.S. dollar at the beginning of September. That dropped to 137 pennies almost 138 this week. We no longer have the status as a so-called “petrol dollar” so we’re not able to protect ourselves from the vagaries of these higher external price shocks.”
