The Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) is reporting the new bivalent COVID-19 booster is now available across the region.
It is designed to offer protection against the original strain and the most recent variants.
Also today (Monday), a new Pfizer vaccine for children aged six months to under five year old becomes available.
To book an appointment go to or visit participating pharmacies.
You can also go to the provincial booking system or call the vaccine contact centre at 1-833-943-3900.
Dr. Kit Young Hoon is the Medical Officer of Health for the NWHU and says, “A bivalent vaccine means it has two types of a virus in it, in this case, the original COVID-19 strain, and the Omicron variant. This practice has been used for many years in flu vaccines, which protect against multiple strains of influenza in one shot. The bivalent booster dose is an effective way to protect yourself and your community from severe impacts of COVID-19.
