The Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Red Lake Miners are teaming up to help raise money for youth sports programming in Kenora.
The two Superior International Junior Hockey League teams are working with Triple P.L.A.Y to host an exhibition series in Kenora tonight (Friday) and tomorrow.
Prior to the 7:00 pm games, kids will get a chance to have pick up hockey games and skills development with the players from the teams.
Ice Dogs President Mike Sveinson says this is all about the growing the game for young kids.
“I always talk about the reason why I’m into this job is because of being able to observe the impact that these junior players had on my kid when he was young enough to look up and see these guys and thought he was watching Sydney Crosby playing.”
Sveinson notes, “There is a perpetual group of young kids that are going to be there, looking up to these players, and continuing to develop and grow our game at the grassroots level. Exposure of the Junior clubs in our communities advocates registration at the Minor Hockey level.”
He adds. “We have to be advocates for the game in our region and anytime that we can expand our borders and showcase SIJHL hockey and our team, that’s a bonus for everybody.”
