Provincial Police in the Northwest Region are warning of a fraud trend taking place on social media platforms.
Local police have received several calls of people being befriended on social media platforms such as Instagram.
The conversation often turns sexual in nature and leads to a request for naked pictures.
Once the pictures are exchanged, the person then threatens to share them with all their contacts as well as family members if money is not e-transferred.
People have given thousands of dollars and the suspects will not stop until the victim is exhausted of money.
OPP stress don’t give any money, report the person on the social media site and call police.
Victims tend to be males in their teens to the Thirties but could target anybody.
Police remind parents to talk to their kids and warn them of the dangers of sharing pictures and information on-line.
