Stewart Arthur Bernhardt
12 February 1942 – 25 August 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of Stewart Arthur Bernhardt, born on February12th, 1942, announce his passing. Stew, an extraordinary, ordinary man, passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2022 with the love his life Sandi at his side, just as she had been for 54 years.
Born and raised in London, Ontario, Stewart started his 20-year-long career with the Ministry of Natural Resources in Dryden, Ontario where he met his wife Sandra (née Matchett). This career allowed him to be posted in various communities across the province.
Stew travelled across Canada with his wife, collecting many treasures and memories along the way. In retirement, their destination of choice was Arizona, where they continued their countless adventures.
No matter the activity, Stew never hesitated to give it his all. He had many passions, including forest fire fighting, judging figure skating competitions, hiking, golf, curling, carpentry, and perfecting his handyman skills. Stew was also passionate about music, as his favourite pastimes were listening to music ranging from country to opera or watching the Blue Jays Games.
Stew’s family and friends would like to thank Dr. Kim and the Palliative Care staff at Bluewater Health in Sarina for their care and compassion throughout Stew’s stay with them.
In memory of Stew, please always help a neighbour in need, give them your time, share your tools, build or fix whatever you can, and try to make the world a friendlier place for all.
As requested by Stew, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place.
If you wish to share your condolences, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (https://cancer.ca/en/) would be appreciated.
