Canada’s Transport Minister is reporting airport wait times are going down.
However, Omar Alghabra stresses their work is not finished.
He says the government continues to work with the industry to relieve congestion and bottlenecks in airports.
“Right now 85% of passengers are being screened within 15 minutes and the number of passengers waiting in the aircraft being held on the tarmac at Pearson is also down to 2%.
It was at 18% in July.
Alghabra says the government has hired 1,800 new security screening officers for airports across the country since April.
He says they are allowing new screening officers to work while they train and tripling the number of security clearances issued over the last year.
Alghabra adds 98% of flights are being completed.
He believes they are moving closer and closer to pre-pandemic numbers.
Airport wait times are going down, but our work is not finished. We continue to work with the industry to relieve congestion and bottlenecks in our airports.👇 pic.twitter.com/9sXtayvonH
