The Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Red Lake Miners are taking part in a fundraiser in Kenora to help get more kids playing hockey.
The two will be playing a pair of exhibition games on September 16 and 17 in support of Triple Play.
Coordinator Barry Reynard says they are partnering with other local hockey teams.
“It’s been in the works for a couple of months, but bringing it together in the last couple of weeks has been a lot of fun,” says Reynard.
“The key is to try and fill the rinks to raise some money for our kids and see what we can do to also do some community fundraising. We’ve now reached an agreement for a partnership with our local boys and girls program.”
Reynard adds the games have a number of purposes.
“All funds and money raised goes towards our Triple Play fall programs to help kids register. We also have a partnership with our two high schools, Beaver Brae and St. Thomas Aquinas, to raise awareness of mental health…Return to Play. COVID has been so brutal on many of our athletes, especially within our high school program, were it literally shut down for two years of nothing.”
Prior to the games, kids will get a chance to have pick up hockey games and skills development with the players from the teams.
