The Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit admits the entire sector is facing challenges right now.
Dr. Kit Young Hoon says they are trying to amplify the effectiveness of their role in disease prevention and controlling infectious diseases.
“We are wanting very much to strengthen our programming within our own staffing constraints because the health, human resource, retention and recruitment problem is affecting all of us including Northwestern Health Unit.”
Dr. Young Hoon says, “We do have a certain amount of people and we are trying to use them effectively and efficiently to ensure strong public health programming which will hopefully reduce the overall burden on the healthcare sector.”
She stresses everyone has a role to play to ease the burden including following public health recommendations surrounding COVID.
