More correctional officers are coming to northwestern Ontario.
Thirty-two recently completed an eight-week training program delivered virtually by Hamilton’s Mohawk College.
They were among the 123 officers who went through the course.
The officers heading to our area will be working at jails in Kenora, Fort Frances, and Thunder Bay.
All recruits received extensive training with enhanced instruction in communication and de-escalation techniques.
The curriculum also included a focus on anti-Black racism, Indigenous cultural training, and inmate management techniques.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says, “Our government is steadfast in our commitment to improving public safety across the North. I am pleased to extend my sincere congratulations to the 32 correctional officer graduates that will support the Northern Region. Your hard work and devotion contribute to building a safer, stronger Ontario.”
