A golden year for the Alzheimer Society’s Ride for Memories and Poker Derby.
The Society is holding the motorcycle run for its 20th time this Saturday.
Acting Executive Director for the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, Rossana Tomashowski, says this year’s ride will end in Fort Frances.
“We’re hoping at least 50. In regular years, we’ve had over 120 riders and then that many for dinner. Dinner (this year) is available if you want to join us in Fort Frances at the Legion,” says Tomashowski.
To participate, register in advance by going to the district branch’s website or by calling its Kenora office.
Riders will leave from Kenora, Fort Frances and Dryden on Saturday.
Starting spots are the Kenora Curling Club, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. In Dryden, riders will begin at the Dryden Husky House, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Fort Frances riders will start at the Harbouridge Restaurant, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.
Participants then travel to Nestor Falls for lunch at Green’s BBQ before continuing to Rainy River. They then double back to Fort Frances for the conclusion of their journey and the dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion.
The event is a fundraiser for the Society.
Money raised helps maintain programs and services available free of charge to patients with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, their caregivers and family members.
