The deadline to file nomination papers for the October 24 Municipal elections is fast approaching as you have until Friday August 19.
Here is the breakdown for local communities:
DRYDEN
There is now a race for Mayor.
Long-time Councillor and former Police Chief Shayne MacKinnon has entered the race.
MacKinnon is joined by retired forester Jack Harrison.
No one has filed their papers for Council.
RED LAKE
There is a two person race for Mayor in Red Lake.
Longtime business owner Dean Martin has filed his papers for the October Municipal election.
Martin joins incumbent Fred Mota.
Debra Geary has joined the race for Councillor.
She is joined by incumbents Janet Hager, Dale Butterfield, and Jamie Kristoff as well as Thomas Doherty and Janisio Mamur.
SIOUX LOOKOUT
A couple of more names added to the candidate list for a Council seat in Sioux Lookout.
Dan Rioux and Brent Wesley are the latest to file their papers.
They join Reece Van Breda, Joan Cosco and incumbent Cory Lago.
Only one name on the list for Mayor and that’s incumbent Doug Lawrance.
IGNACE
It remains a two person race for Mayor in Ignace.
Incumbent Penny Lucas is joined by Bill Gascon.
There are seven so far vying for one of four seats on Council including incumbents Chantelle Tucker and Greg Waldock.
Other names on the list include John Taddeo, Al Zimmer, Janet Lett, Jodie Defeo and Kimberley-Ann Baigrie.
EAR FALLS
All is quiet on the Municipal election front in Ear Falls.
Kevin Kahoot is seeking re-election and so far is the only one to file his papers.
Three are listed for Council including David Carroll, Dan Sutton and Sarah Desforges.
MACHIN
The struggle for office in Machin is starting to heat up.
Political veterans Gordon Griffiths and Garry Parkes have put their names in for Mayor.
Four have filed papers for Council.
They include Dennis Peterson, Greg Swanson, Ray Pilkey and Kennedy Maidment.
