A handful of municipalities in our region will benefit from a provincial investment to expand access to high-speed internet.
The government has signed agreements with eight internet providers to bring access to as many as 339 municipalities across Ontario.
It is part of a historic investment of nearly $4 billion to connect the entire province.
One deal is with Bell Canada to enhance service in the Kenora and Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls area, along with Marathon and Thunder Bay.
Another with Community Network Partners will improve internet in the Fort Frances, Emo and Atikokan regions.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says, “It’s no secret that Northern Ontario has lacked access to high-speed internet with limited connectivity in many remote communities. Our government recognizes the importance of broadband for education, job creation and economic growth to keep our northern communities connected and we are proud to support these critical infrastructure projects.”
