Another warning of suspected blue-green algae in a Dryden area lake.
The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting an algae bloom at the public beach on the north side of Ghost Lake.
The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks is now testing the bloom to see if it is blue-green algae and the results aren’t yet known.
As a precaution the beach has been closed.
Some blue-green algae produce toxins that can pose a health risk to people and animals when they are exposed to them in large amounts.
When these blooms are present, it’s important to avoid drinking the water, swimming in it, and using it for bathing or other household purposes.
It is recommended to wait at least two weeks after the bloom has disappeared before resuming normal use of lake waters.
