A Balmertown resident has hit the jackpot after a big win in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation 50/50 prize draw.
Janice Hnatiuk is celebrating after receiving a call from Foundation President and CEO Glenn Craig that her name was picked in the July monthly draw.
She brings home $533,010 as a result.
Hnatiuk says she was in complete disbelief when she received the call and after assuring her several times that she was in fact the winner, and the call was not a prank, Janice stated, “I think my heart is going to pump out of my chest!”
Her father was recently in the ICU at the Thunder Bay Hospital, which is a reason why she chose to support the cause.
Janice says she plans on helping out her kids and do some traveling with the winnings.
Glenn Craig says the 50/50 draw goes towards purchasing vital equipment and making upgrades at the hospital and its satellite programs across Northwestern Ontario.
To date, over $13 million in prizes has been awarded to winners across Ontario, and in turn, millions of dollars of vital equipment has been purchased for the Hospital.
Tickets are now available for the August draw.
