Lawrence “Larry” Moore
September 3, 1935 – May 16, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Robert (Larry) Moore. Survived by his wife Ruth of 63 years, children David, Jennifer and Janet (Stacey), grandchildren Derek and Brandon (father Paul), Sara and Hanna, sister Rosemary (Keith), sisters- in-law Joan and Eunice, brother-in-law Keith. He was predeceased by his mother Mildred and father George, sister Betty, brothers Ted, Lloyd and Fred.
Larry grew up on a farm near Owen Sound and always boasted about his farming roots although he was more than a little upset when Ruth started hobby farming raising llamas as a retirement project.
At age 21, Larry joined the OPP and was sent to Kenora. At this time, he was nicknamed Larry. His family thought he would return to civilization in Southern Ontario but a combination of factors kept him in Northwestern Ontario. The pilot for Parsons Airways boarded at the same place Larry did and there he met Ruth Parsons, fell in love with her, with flying and with the North. He also liked to hunt and fish. Three months later he was posted to Red Lake where he spent the next seven years. October 25, 1958 Ruth and Larry were married.
To this day he is Larry in the OPP and Northwestern Ontario and always Lawrence by his family and friends in Southern Ontario.
Next came Atikokan for three years, Nestor Falls for one year, promoted to corporal and moved to Dryden for six years. Then Sioux Lookout as one of the first pilots and Sergeant in Charge of the Northwestern patrol unit serving northern reserves. Finally returning to Dryden as Staff Sergeant in charge of the Dryden detachment and retired in 1990. Retirement was spent visiting family and friends across Canada, travelling to Europe, Costa Rica, Cuba, Hawaii but mainly working at camp at Thunder Lake, driving his tractors, collecting old cars, fishing and flying his plane. Larry had a rich active life. He loved his family and was very proud of each one of them. The limited activity caused by a stroke and followed by a broken hip was difficult to adjust to. Fly on Larry, you now have your wings!
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 2 pm. at the First United Church with Alice Bloomfield officiating.
A Private Interment will take place at a later date.
