A school teacher in Sioux Lookout has been selected to carry the Liberal banner in the Kiiwetinoong Riding.
Manuela Michelizzi has spent the last 13 years as an instructor at Sacred Heart School, is 1st Executive Vice President Northwest Unit of Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association, community advocate, and a mother of two.
Michelizzi says, “I am dedicated to making northern voices heard and striving to improve our access to health care and mental health services, restoring our world class education system, finding solutions to the housing crisis and making living in the north more affordable for families and those just starting out.”
A release from the Liberal parts states, “Manuela has possessed an enthusiasm for the arts, especially for dance since childhood. She has led many initiatives in her community. These efforts include workshops for dance and for conversational Italian language skills. Through deep reflection and daily concentrated efforts, she is leading her school in practices that foster Reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit and Metis people and hopes to continue building bridges between fractured communities”
Michelizzi was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario and earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University.
After planting her roots in Sioux Lookout, Michelizzi say she has especially developed her teaching practice to include and emphasize Special Education practices and instructional approaches that help foster improved literacy in children.
