Ontario’s party leaders are making their pre-election pitch to municipal leaders across the region.
Each made a virtual appearance at the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association Conference in Fort Frances Wednesday.
Premier Doug Ford outlined the investments his party has made to the north.
“These projects are part of our plan to build strong communities, support economic development and create conditions for businesses to thrive.”
Liberal leader Steven Del Duca doesn’t feel enough attention has been paid to northern Ontario.
“I think it has become crystal clear that the north has been an afterthought for the Ford Conservatives. A place that they use for last minute photo-op’s and empty promises right before an election. That’s not good enough.”
The NDP’s Andrea Horwath is promising a new deal for municipalities.
“And we will be working in partnership with you to make sure that we pay our fair share. That the province pays our fair share of services and infrastructure and that we are also working with you to push for federal supports as well.”
Mike Schreiner of the Green party proposed stable funding if elected.
“We will commit to long-term stable funding for the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund and we will pace that funding with inflation to better reflect your local economic and fiscal circumstances.”
The NOMA Conference continues today (Thursday) with a speec from David Piccini, the Minister of Environment, Conservation, and Parks.
