An important fundraiser for local programming to support those living with dementia and their caregivers is one month away.
The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is Saturday, May 28 at the Dryden High School track.
Shyler Hendrickson is the Fundevelopment Coordinator for Kenora/Rainy River and says it’s great to be back outside after a couple of years of virtual walks.
“One of the big draws I think for the walk and the other events that we do is the sense of community that comes from getting people together and going out and walking along the harbourfront or downtown so that people can really see us in action in the community.”
Hendrickson says all money raised stays in the community.
“People might be familiar with our music program which is our most popular project. We also do caregiver support groups. We do art therapy programs. We do a number of training programs for public service workers in the community. We have courses like Dementia 101 and then we have programs more tailored specifically to caregivers, to people in the early stages of dementia and the late stages. Stuff like that.”
Registration is now open by visiting Alzheimer Society Districts of Kenora/Rainy River
