Green First Commits To Build A New Mill In Kenora
Green First says it’s will be building a brand new, state-of-the-art lumber mill in Kenora.
Green First originally bought the Kenora Forest Products Mill in October of 2020.
Northern Development, Natural Resources, Mines and Forestry Minister Greg Rickford says the province will be helping to decommission the current site and build a new mill.
“Today’s announcement to the tune of $17.2 million counts the province as a significant partner with Green First to make a long-term commitment to a state-of-the-art facility to produce forest products here in Kenora but not at the Keewatin location,” explains Rickford.
Chairman of Green First, Paul Rivett says work to decommission the current site should begin shortly.
“Through a lot of work with Minister Rickford and his people we managed to come to a way to move it, a then free up this great location for so many other developments for the city. So it’s like having your cake and eating it too. Free up this great location and have the jobs at a state-of-the-art facility.”
The location of the new mill hasn’t been announced yet.
