The Northwestern Health Unit says there are now 151 cases of COVID considered serious in our region.
A majority of the cases are in the Sioux Lookout First Nations category.
This number is lower than the ‘real’ number due to the fact many people are not eligible for PCR testing and instead test positive on Rapid Antigen tests at home and are not counted in the total.
The test positivity rate is 19.6 per cent but fewer people are getting tested.
Meantime, there’s been another death related to COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay District.
Following the Easter weekend, officials confirmed the 86th passing since the beginning of the pandemic.
There are also 233 active cases and the Thunder Bay hospital reports four of their 21 patients with the virus are in the Intensive Care Unit.
Ontario is reporting 1,662 people in hospital with the virus with 203 people in intensive care.
That marks an increase of 176 hospitalizations and a decrease of three people in intensive care since Tuesday’s report.
Around 54.6 per cent of people in hospital with COVID were admitted for another reason but tested positive for the virus, while about 45.4 per cent were admitted because of COVID.
Of those in intensive care, 40.65 per cent were admitted for other reasons, while 59.35 per cent were admitted because of the virus.
