Both levels of government have dipped into their wallets to support infrastructure upgrades in Ontario communities.
A total of $15.5 million is being invested, with the provincial total over $5.2 million, to support eight projects across the Kenora-Rainy River riding.
Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation is getting more than $844,000 in provincial funds to support a $4.6 million dollar project.
Machin is accepting $87,000 from Ontario for a $221,000 project.
The exact work hasn’t been confirmed but the money can be used to replace watermains and hydrants, new pipes, road and sidewalk repairs and improvements to water treatment facilities.
Local MPP Greg Rickford says, “The majority of these projects are in support of rehabilitating aging water mains and water infrastructure in these communities. These projects will support safe and clean drinking water.”
Other communities in the region benefiting from the funding include Kenora, Rainy River, Emo, Fort Frances, Chapple and the Ojibways of the Onigaming.
