A new four year contract secured for some 24 members of Unifor working for WJS Ontario Attendance Centres in Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Kenora, as well as an open custody youth facility northwest of Kenora.
These workers provide youth outreach and counselling services.
The deal provides annual 2.5% wage increases, one new stat holiday, an extra week of paid vacation, additional pay for clothing, a 25% increase in employer pension contributions, a small hike in mileage pay, and increased meal allowances.
The vote on the agreement was unanimous and is retroactive to April 1 and expires on March 31, 2026.
Local National Representative Stephen Boon says, “We have developed a solid working relationship with WJS Management and we were pleased to see this carry over into another very smooth set of negotiations.”
Boon adds, “The final agreement provides solid improvements and long term stability for Unifor members employed at WJS Ontario Attendance Centres across the region.”
