It was a game that had true playoff intensity between two rivals.
Sixty minutes wasn’t enough but in the end the Red Lake Miners pulled out a thrilling 5-4 overtime win over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Wednesday night.
The game went back and forth throughout with Dryden scoring first for the fourth consecutive game courtesy of Nakoda Thunderchief’s power-play goal.
However, the Miners would storm back to take a 3-1 first period lead with goals from Nic Bolin, Carter Albrecht and Ryan Hunter.
Dryden GM would respond with two man advantage goals in the second from Thunderchief and Brady Frattinger to tie things up.
Things looked good for Red Lake when Ryan Hunter celebrated his second marker of the game in the third.
However, after a turnover caused by an aggressive Frattinger, 18 year-old Dayvan Bull stepped into a shot and blasted it past goalie Kiev Kineshanko with just over four minutes left to play to score his first SIJHL Playoff goal and force overtime.
Both teams traded chances in the extra frame but a defensive zone turnover set up a Noah Kramps tip in goal at the 9:45 mark for the win.
Dryden GM outshot Red Lake 61-43 and had 27 alone in the second period.
The Miners can advance to the Bill Salonen Cup with a win at home Saturday.
