The search for the worst road in Ontario is underway.
It’s a campaign from the Canadian Automobile Association.
Julie Beun says the initiative has worked in the past.
“We get really engaged voters who are identifying the pain points in their communities. But ultimately what’s happening is we are seeing decision makers make changes to their plans for actually getting those roads fixed.”
Beun says, “Over 80% of Ontarians say poor road conditions and potholes are still the most common issues in their communities. Bad roads continue to impact safety and many drivers are altering their driving behaviour to accommodate for road issues.”
The damage to a vehicle caused by a pothole can range from $300, with some fixes topping $6,000 depending on the make and model of the car.”
The CAA Worst Roads campaign often draws little response from northwestern Ontario.
Beun says stronger community advocacy can help.
The deadline to make a nomination is April 19.
