While the positivity rate is coming down, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains.
Northwestern Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says it’s natural with most public health restrictions now lifted.
She says residents are still encouraged to follow previous public health measures to reduce their risk.
The includes wearing masks, physical distancing and avoid large gatherings.
Dr. Young Hoon says the virus is something we have to live with and figure out how to live with.
She says it comes down to accessing the risk of wearing a mask or not.
“I do think that it is a risk assessment for individuals. That risk assessment considers what the setting is, is it indoors versus outdoors, how closely you are coming to other people.”
Dr. Young Hoon says there’s also the risk to yourself, others, and family members to consider.
Meantime, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association wants masks brought back into Ontario’s schools.
It notes high case counts and the number of children being admitted to hospital with COVID-19 symptoms.
There has also been a number of teacher and education worker absences related to the virus that are going unfilled.
The Association says masking is one of the most effective measures that can reduce transmission both in the classrooms and communities.
