Today is the day.
The official switch over for the City of Dryden from our Municipal Police force to the services of the Ontario Provincial Police.
The transition to be completed today. Dryden Police Service will cease to exist.
Like every good thing that comes to end we reflect on what was and the positive that DPS had on the community.
Helping citizens in need, up-holding the law, keeping our area safe and so so much more.
Dryden Police Service and it’s members were involved in countless community projects and events. Always stepping forward to make things happen.
Many of us have had positive experiences with Dryden Police Service members over the years. Experiences that created lasting memories. I’ll share one of mine…..
Years ago I broke my hip. While recovering at home and home alone at the time of the incident, I heard a loud bang! I used my walker to get to the picture window to see what the commotion was all about. There sitting in my front yard was a half-ton truck that had crashed through my chain-link fence and narrowly missed my house…..coming to rest near my giant maple tree in the front yard! Quite the sight to say the least. The drunk driver, who had stolen the vehicle from just down the street, was not injured and was attempting to flee on foot. Not much I could do about that given my mobility at the time. All I could do at the time was stare out the picture window at the scene that was created as spectators started to stop, gather and look in awe.
Now here’s the good part…..
As the drunk driver was attempting his escape and running away from the scene, off-duty Dryden Police Officer Janet Kaus saw what happened, chased the culprit….on foot…..in her flip-flops!! She tackled and arrested the suspect. Now that is service!
DPS you will be missed. Thank you for your countless years of dedication to so much. You were part of our community – not to be forgotten.
