Some relief for motorists in Ontario.
The province is eliminating licence plate renewal fees and the requirement to have a licence plate sticker for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds.
You will no longer have to pay effective March 13.
Premier Doug Ford says, “Drivers will still renew their licence plates but now it is completely free of charge and there won’t be any sticker required. We’re committed to reducing the burden on the hard working folks who need a break.”
The government is also refunding eligible drivers for any licence plate renewal sticker fees paid since March 2020.
Vehicle owners will need to confirm that their address information on their permit or driver’s licence is up-to-date and all outstanding fines are paid.
To confirm visit Service Ontarioby March 7 or call 1-888-333-0049.
Ford says the move will provide real savings for up to 7.5 million vehicle owners.
He predicts it will save northerners at least $60 per year.
Eliminating the sticker and fee to renew your licence plate, while also refunding the cost of licence renewals for the past two years, is a one way we can put and keep more money in the pockets of hard-working Ontarians.
