The Ontario government is spending $900,000 to upgrade Lillian Berg School in Vermilion Bay and another $900,000 to enhance operations at Ignace Public School.
The money will be used to create a total of 30 new child care spaces.
Once complete, the projects will provide 1 family age group room at each of the schools through the province’s Early Years Capital Program.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says the funding will provide choice and flexibility for local families and new opportunities for children.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says the announcement will ensure the communities have more options for childcare programming.
Director of Education Sherri-Lynne Pharand says, “We are appreciative to Minister Greg Rickford, Minister Lecce, and the Ministry of Education for the financial support for this project and are excited to see our schools in Ignace and Vermilion Bay as locations for new childcare spaces. We know how important these services are and are proud to be able to help bring these services to families in need.”
The local funding is part of a province-wide investment of more than $600 million to support 78 school and child care related space projects.
