The scaling back of Canada Post services could be happening in the not so distant future.
Minister for Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), Filomena Tassi, asked Canadians back in December about possible changes to services provided by the Crown corporation.
Items of note of services that could change include;
- mail delivery reduced during the week (52 per cent oppose)
- door-to-door delivery axed in favour of community mailbox sites (CMB’s) (48 per cent support)
- shuttering rural offices (70 per cent oppose)
- replacing workers with machines (42 per cent oppose)
The change could come as a result of consistent losses the mail company has posted.
While 2021’s data isn’t fully available yet, the self-funded corporation did lose $570 million on revenue earned of $9.3 billion for 2020. It was indicated that there was a lost of $264 million on revenue of $5.4 billion in its third quarter according to a report published in November 2021.
