The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has found no reasonable grounds to believe that two Dryden Police officers committed a criminal offence in connection with a September 2021 incident.
The SIU report states both officers fired their guns to protect themselves from imminent danger as a 40-year-old man drove his pickup at the two.
A total of 33 shots were fired but the driver wasn’t struck.
Police were called to a Highway 17 home to investigate a disturbance and when officers arrived, they saw a pickup truck facing them on the driveway.
The man proceeded to strike the marked SUV sending it rotating.
The driver circled his vehicle around and moved towards the officers a second time, at which time shots were fired towards the individual.
The man was eventually arrested and the SIU says the action was legally justified in the highly-charged circumstances of the moment.
The accused suffered fractured ribs.
One officer was transported to hospital with injuries.
