Reintegrating back into a community can be tough after having spent time in incarceration.
The province has hired 25 Community Reintegration Officers, with one position each at the the Kenora Jail and Thunder Bay Jail and Correctional Centre.
This is part of Ontario’s $23 million dollar investment over the next two years to hire 50 probation and parole officers across the province, in response to feedback from frontline staff, Indigenous partners and community stakeholders.
Community Reintegration Officers will work closely with correctional staff to assist in planning supports for inmates who are going to be living back in the community.
CRO’s also work with the individual being released to connect with local agencies to gain support and having a structured release plan.
New officers were hired in December.
