With many Highway closures already this winter in the region, Provincial Police are reminding motorists to be prepared when you hit the road.
Police say a truck driver broke down on Highway 17 between Ignace and Dryden and spent 24 hours without heat, one of the many calls from stranded motorists in recent weeks.
Whether you’re broke down or waiting in line for two or 24 hours, OPP say you should always have a survival kit and extra winter clothing in your vehicle.
Other tips police give include making sure your wind shield washer fluid is topped up, your cell phone is charged and you have a snow brush and booster cables on hand.
It also doesn’t hurt to bring snacks, non perishable food items and lots of water.
If you can, police suggest putting off any travel until weather and road conditions improve.
But if you do have to travel, police say it’s important to slow down, drive to conditions and leave yourself extra time to get to where you’re going.
