A chance for those in need to get out of the cold.
Sioux Lookout’s cold weather drop-in centre is opening for the winter season at 66A Front Street on Monday, January 17.
The First Step Women’s Shelter will be staffing the drop-in centre everyday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
“Having a place for vulnerable individuals to seek warmth is essential. With the adverse weather that Sioux Lookout experiences and the continuation of the pandemic, the drop-in centre offers refuge from the conditions and a positive outlet for those that are feeling isolated or alone. We hope to be that community connection for the individuals that access this service,” says Tana Troniak, Executive Director of First Step Women’s Shelter.
Light meals and refreshments will be provided, as well as access to phones and the internet.
All COVID-19 protocols and restrictions will be adhered to.
The Kenora District Services Board has provided funding to operate the program.
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout has secured the location until at least April 30, when the weather and need will be assessed.
