The Kenora District Services Board is working to offer emergency child care services in response to school closures and COVID-19 restrictions.
Care will be free for school-aged children of eligible health care and frontline workers, starting as soon as Monday January 10.
Services will be offered in Dryden, Vermilion Bay and Kenora and starting dates may vary.
Officials say due to resource challenges, emergency child care will not be offered in Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Ear Falls for the duration of January 10-17.
“As we evaluate capacity to be able to offer emergency child care again for eligible workers, I want to say thank you to our Early Years team and our community-based licensed child care operators as we determine the ability to operate emergency child care services across the District of Kenora. We will continue to take and implement every precautionary measure as directed by the province to ensure the safety and well-being of children, their families, and child care staff in the locations that remain open in this time of need,” says Henry Wall, Chief Administrative Officer of the KDSB.
Parents and Caregivers can apply by visiting the KDSB’s homepage and filling out the online form or downloading the pdf form.
Eligible workers will be contacted by the operator in their community if space is available.
Those who apply are asked not to contact child care operators directly.
Space availability is limited and based on licensing capacity and staff resources.
The complete eligibility list can also be found here ( refer to Schedule 4).
Further updates will be provided if additional child care locations and communities can offer emergency child care services.
