Frank Braun
March 15, 1943 – January 5, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Braun announce his passing on January 5, 2022 at the age of 78, following a short illness. Frank will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Gail, his daughter Tracey (Chester) Draper and his son Scott (Katherine) Braun. He will also be greatly missed by his grandsons of whom he was so proud: Brendon Robinson of Golden B.C, Christopher Draper of Yarmouth N.S., Jeremy Braun of Thunder Bay, ON, and Michael Braun of Thunder Bay, ON.
Frank grew up at Red Lake Road and attended the Quibell School until he was 14 years old, when his family moved to Steinbach, MB. He completed his High School education there. Then, missing the lakes and forests of northwest Ontario, he hitchhiked to Dryden at the age of 16 and began working at various jobs in the area: Harley’s Supermarket, Motorways, and Dryden Paper Company, to name a few. Frank completed an electrical apprenticeship at the papermill and became a Certified Tradesman in 1973. He worked as a construction electrician for a number of years, often picking up part time jobs on the side, either cutting wood or truck driving, because this was the work he really enjoyed. He also built a fourplex, a couple of houses, and several shops and garages. He was a hard worker and always ready to help others with their projects or other needs.
Frank enjoyed camping and travelling and took his family on extended camping trips to both the east and west coast of Canada. Many weekends were spent camping and water skiing at Amesdale, Centre Fire, or Raleigh Lake. As empty nesters, Frank and Gail took up RVing, travelling to the Yukon and throughout the southern states of the US and parts of Mexico. Other trips took them to Cuba, Costa Rica, and the highlight of them all – Israel. In retirement, Frank began landscaping their 40 acre property, turning it into a park-like setting with the most beautiful grass you’ve ever seen.
As well as his immediate family, Frank is survived by four sisters: Eva (Leo) Reimer, Rosenort MB, Agnes (Thamby) Oomen, Steinbach MB, Mary Kehler, Falher AB, and Susie McCabe, Winnipeg MB. He is also survived by sister-in-laws: Joyce Pilkey, Langley BC and Velma Silver-Walton, Dryden ON, and brother-in-law: Ron (Barb) Silver, Dryden ON, plus many (twenty) nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Agnes Braun, brothers John Braun, Eddie Braun, and two infant brothers, and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Edna Silver, brothers-in-law Peter Goertzen and Ron Pilkey, niece Karen Goertzen, nephew Ron Goertzen, and niece Patti Skillen.
There will be a funeral service at Dryden Full Gospel Church on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Live Streaming provided by Steven’s Funeral Home. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Dryden Food Bank or Samaritan’s Purse Canada, through Stevens Funeral Home, Box 412, Dryden, Ontario P8N 2Z1.
