Evelyn Shepherd (Skene) (nee Lyle)
November 4, 1930 – January 6, 2022
With heavy hearts, the family of Evelyn Shepherd announces her passing at Dryden Regional Health Centre on January 6, 2022 at the age of 91.
Evelyn was born in the Dryden Red Cross Hospital on November 4, 1930 and raised in Minnitaki, Ontario on the farm where Egli’s Sheep Farm is now located. She moved to Dryden, Ontario to attend high school. She graduated with her junior matric (grade 10) and then obtained employment at the Dryden Paper Mill. She met Neil Skene at a dance and they were married on June 3, 1948. They first lived in Dryden and then moved to Barclay in 1958 where they raised their 4 children. They loved traveling and camping in the summers. A special location was Blue Lake Provincial Park. Once their youngest child started school, she returned to work at various jobs including: Cadarios, the Dryden Credit Bureau and Alec Wilson’s Publications
Neil passed away in 1982, She married Keith Shepherd on May 19,1989 and they enjoyed many happy years together traveling the world and visiting family. Evelyn was a member of the First United Church, a founding member of the Barclay W.I. and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Cathy Skene (Moshe Selchen), Janice Skene (Patrick Judge), Linda Dillon (Michael), daughter–in-law, Brenda Skene, stepchildren, Nancy Chasowy (Nick), Cindy MacDonald (Jim) and Keith Shepherd Jr., grandchildren, Darren Skene (Amy), Andrew Green (Lindsay), Dustin Green (Ashley), Valerie Green, Melissa Cameron (Ryan), Daniel Dillon, Michael Erickson and Kelly Erickson, great grandchildren, Kayleigh Skene, Mason Skene, Evelyn Morrissey-Green and Benjamin Cameron, sisters, Jeanette Raslask and Lillian Laking and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Neil Skene, second husband, Keith Shepherd and special friend, Maurice Frennette, son, Kenneth Skene, brothers, Gordon Lyle and Dave Lyle and sisters, Betty Melmoth and Marjorie Sherwood.
The family regrets that due to Covid a funeral service will not be held at this time.
