Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says we’re in a similar situation as many health units across the province.
“The Omicron variant, which is highly transmissible, is spreading in the region and is one of the reasons our case count is increasing rapidly.”
Dr. Young Hoon adds, “When gathering, it’s important that no one has symptoms of COVID-19. Some recent cases believe they just had a cold and gathered anyways, leading to spread. If you have symptoms, stay home and do not gather with others. Previously with the Delta variant we only saw a small number of spread within social gatherings, however with the Omicron more people at gatherings are being infected. For this reason, I highly recommend limiting the number of people you’re gathering with.”
The test positivity rate in the region is just over 8 percent.
A significant increase in the Thunder Bay District today with 102 new cases, putting the active case count up to 312.
It’s also another record breaking day in Ontario with 13,807 new cases. More information can be found in the link below.
