The Northwestern Health is reporting 11 new COVID cases.
Five come from the District of Rainy River, four in the Kenora region and two in the Dryden/Red Lake reporting area.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says we now have 25 active cases.
“So far we do not have evidence of the omicron variant however sequencing to determine whether the positive tests are in fact the new variant can take a week or two. I urge anyone who is eligible to get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.”
She notes, “We will be adding more clinics soon in order to have more availability during the holidays. The public is reminded that they can also get a vaccine from a participating pharmacy or their health care provider.”
The first dose vaccination rate among those aged 5 to 11 is at roughly 25%.
The third dose rate for those over the age of 12 is at 15.7%.
Dr. Young Hoon says that number will go up as many appointments for children have been booked over the next few weeks.
Meantime, the Thunder Bay district recorded seven new COVID positives Tuesday with 64 active cases.
Ontario saw 1,429 new cases and the positivity rate hit 6.6%, the highest its been since May 18.
