A draft plan to use Legacy Reserve funding to pay for police disbandment costs isn’t sitting well with one Dryden councillor.
Shayne MacKinnon says the money was sitting in a reserve fund for community enhancements, improving quality of life and infrastructure upgrades.
MacKinnon notes the disbandment is expected to cost $1.7 million.
“That will just about deplete that hydro sale reserve. It will be down to $323,891 if I’m not mistaken.”
However, Treasurer Steven Lansdell-Roll believes the impacts will be short-term.
“My hope is that once we’re through the OPP transition costs and we’re into the billing model that we will have operating savings that can replenish all of these one-time uses of these reserves.”
Lansdell-Roll believes the City can generate meaningful interest on the money that can be a revenue source for operations.
The recommendation hasn’t been approved by Council.
