The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting one new COVID case Tuesday.
It comes from the Kenora region and puts the active count at 18.
Numbers in the Thunder Bay district are at 135 with 11 new cases.
There were 928 new cases across Ontario and 9 more COVID-related deaths.
The Omicron variant continues to be a concern in Ontario but Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says it’s too early to say if it will impact our area.
“There is a general lack of information on the Omicron variant so it’s hard to predict what the impact is going to be on spread across the province and of course within our region. We do have to remain vigilant. We do have to remain mindful, particularly when travelling, to follow public health measures.”
Dr. Young Hoon says local health officials are closely monitoring the situation.
“Generally our region has not been affected by such variants early. Having said that people have been travelling more, we do know that type of global travel and provincial travel is occurring and therefore there is the possibility of spread to our region.”
