The Ontario Clean Water Agency is under the microscope by the provincial auditor general.
Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa says the report released last week raises questions about boil-water advisories on first nations in his riding.
Mamakwa says the document says the agency is hesitant to provide support to first nations without achieving full cost recovery.
“I didn’t realize getting people clean drinking water was only important when there was money to be made off it,” Mamakwa told the Ontario Legislature during Question Period on Monday.
“Leaving people to live their whole lives under boil-water advisories is nothing to be proud of.”
Environment Minister David Piccini says they have recently created an Indigenous Advisory Circle to improve water quality in first nations.
